Biography

Urs Voegeli, born 1976 in Schaffhausen, lives in Winterthur. From the first Chords on the guitar at the age of 14 until his graduation at the Musikhochschule Luzern in 2007, Voegeli checked out many ways of playing the guitar. In the beginning, Blues and Rock were in the centre of his interest. Then, Voegeli studied the secrets of Modern Jazz. His studies led him into the world of Improvised Music and made him open-minded towards stiles and different forms/shapes of music. His wide musical interest brings him together with musicians from different genres. Voegeli won the Foerderprice of City and Canton of Schaffhausen in 2008.

Urs Vögeli plays/played a.o. with Bugge Wesseltoft, Elina Duni, Corin Curschellas, Vera Kappeler, Dominique Girod, Mats Spillmann, Andreas Tschopp, Christoph Irniger, Irina Ungureanu, Arno Troxler, Christian Rösli, Michael Jäger, Julian Satorius, Flo Götte, Ciril Moulaz, Simone Vollenweider, Bettina Klöti, Claude Meier, Lukas Mantel a.o.

Voegeli plays guitar with a distinct twist which can be very electric as well as bellpure...The influences of Frisell, Rypdal, Abercrombie, McLaughlin even Hall are there lurking underneath but this man goes beyond and gives you of his own musical substance. Excellent music, talented writing, sensitive performance.

Nicolas Lambert in Viva La Musica, Mensuel de l'AMR, Genève, Mai 2009 (Translation)

...Voegeli loves to play special guitarchords with plain strings and produces great resonances. He masters normally unplayable intervals and plays semintones, that sound like the harmonica in «Once Upon A Time In The West»...
